Friends of The Feed

What's it all about?

Friends of The Feed is the group of organisations who have committed to raising £1,000 for The Feed in a year.

How will the money be used?

Money raised will support The Feed's projects in Norwich which provide support so that people can eat well, live well and feel connected. The largest such project is our Social Supermarket and Community Café on Hall Road in Norwich. This modest venue provides free and low-cost groceries, plus a range of other advice and social activities, to thousands of people each month.

Why is this needed?

Norfolk has the highest malnutriton rate in England. 6.7% of its residents are malnourished which is 1/3rd higher than the average for England.

These figures are from an independent report undertaken in October 2023 by Future Health. The full report is here.

In Norwich, 40% of the city is in the most deprived areas of England - this is twice the national average. (Source: Norwich City Council, State of Norwich report, 2023).

How much difference can £1,000 make?

£1,000 is how much The Feed spends each month on fruit and vegetables, which are then given out free to its Social Supermarket members. Nobody should be unable to have healthy food like this.

How can a Friend contribute the £1,000?

There are a several ways and it can be done by a mixture too:

  • Fundraising of your own e.g. office bake sales, your teams doing a challenge like collectively running 100 miles in a week etc. We use JustGiving as our online fundraising platform.

  • Fundraising at our events or ones we promote. We do an annual long walk and challenge people to take part and raise at least £100 each.

  • We have free places at the Blickling Half Marathon on 16 March 2025 and the Norfolk Marathon and Half Marathon in Cromer on 13 April 2025. In return for the free place we ask for fundraising of £150 for half marathons and £250 for the marathon.

  • Make a corporate donation.

  • Sponsorship of our events e.g. our Waterloo Park Dog Show, Treasure Hunt, or long-distance walk.

Note that money spent on our catering or in our cafés isn't included. Most of this is accounted for by staff and other costs so it doesn't add to our ability to help more people in the way that fundraising and donations can.

Keeping in touch

The Feed organises events on a quarterly basis for all Friends. They will typically include some or all of:

  • sharing our latest news

  • enabling you to make connections with fellow Friends

  • some of our own delicious food!
