Nu Image Raise £2.8K with 24-Hour Walk
"Hi, I’m Lauren, the content and communications executive at Nu Image, a design and digital marketing agency based in Norwich and proud Friend of The Feed. You might be wondering what I’m doing writing for The Feed’s blog. Well, I’m here to tell you about our recent event raising money for The Feed.
What we did
On Friday 30th to Saturday 31st of August, the Nu Image team spent 24 hours walking (and running) around Whitlingham Lake. We took it in turns to walk and rest at our base camp in the woods, ensuring several people were out walking at all times. This included the early hours of the morning in the complete darkness. When Nu Image commits, they commit!
In total, our core team of twelve walked 138 laps, which is roughly 345 miles. If this was done in one long relay, we’d have walked from Winterton-on-Sea on the Norfolk Coast all the way to St Davids on the furthest point of the Welsh Coast.
Quite a distance, right? Well, it didn’t come without its pains. Aching feet, giant blisters, and stiff muscles were in abundance, not to mention the bizarre conversations borne of sleep deprivation and mosquito bites. But every moment was worth it to raise money and awareness for people in Norwich who suffer far more serious challenges on a daily basis.
Why we did it
6.7% of Norfolk suffers from malnutrition. That’s 1 in 16 people. This shocking statistic is one of the first I learned when speaking to the team at The Feed, and it floored me. How can a county often typecast with affluence and wealth have the highest malnutrition rate in the UK and be home to such pockets of poverty, right under our noses? It’s a harsh reality and a tough pill to swallow. As soon as I learnt this and spoke to Chris, Corporate Marketing and Fundraising Manager of The Feed, I knew we had to help.
After speaking with the rest of the Nu Image team and getting an enthusiastic ‘yes’, we decided to commit to supporting The Feed in their work this year. We were determined to do what we could to help The Feed help those less fortunate across our city.
We knew we wanted to do something big. Last year, the team cycled for 24 hours, taking turns on stationary bikes outside of the Nu Image studio, to raise money for Endometriosis UK, so this year we challenged ourselves to go even bigger. And big we went - friends, family, clients, and even the public got involved in our massive walkathon, all to support The Feed. And those who couldn’t walk with us either donated their money or helped us out in other ways (shout out to Norwich Camping & Leisure for lending us lots of brilliant camping equipment).
Supporting Norwich families
Our donation, which finished at £2,803, will go towards The Feed’s Social Supermarket. With these funds, The Feed’s team will be able to stock their supermarket shelves with groceries for their members, including vegetables, fruit, bread and hygiene products, which they give to members for free. These essentials can be life-changing and help support families and individuals that may otherwise go without.
We couldn’t be more proud to support The Feed’s incredible mission this year, and we urge others to do the same if they’re able. From dropping off your extra cucumbers grown in your allotment to volunteering in their Community Café to donating a few pounds, there are many ways in which you can help The Feed. Drop an email to chris@thefeed.org.uk to get involved!
Our Nu Image event was a success. We had fun, raised nearly triple our goal of £1000, and have almost forgotten about the blisters and pulled muscles. Would we do it again? If it meant supporting The Feed’s essential work and helping feed people across Norwich, then yes, in a heartbeat. We’d maybe just invest in better walking socks…
Thank you to The Feed for their help in spreading the word about our event, cheering us on, providing us with content and information, and generally being great partners in this journey. Being a Friend of The Feed is a friendship we will treasure."
Thank you Lauren, all at Nu Image, their donors and and supporters for your fundraising and raising awareness of The Feed and the need for our work in Norwich.
