Norfolk Coast Walk: Saturday 12th October 2024
Thank you to Pivotal, CyberScale and Ensors for being our main event sponsors.
Deadline to sign up is Wednesday 2 October at 5pm - email chris@thefeed.org.uk by then to take part!
Our annual fundraising walk will take place on the North Norfolk coast this year.
After 3 years of tackling the Marriott's Way, we wanted a change of scene and where better than some of our county's beautiful coastline.
The walk begins at Blakeney Harbour at 9.00am on Saturday 12th October.
The finish is Cromer Pier, which makes this a 15 mile walk over varied terrain.
We are following the Norfolk Coast Path.
Why is this taking place?
This is a fundraising event for The Feed. It will raise money to help us run all our community projects so people in Norwich can eat well, live well and feel connected. The largest such project is our Social Supermarket which provides low-cost groceries for over 6,000 people who can't afford enough food.
Why is The Feed's work needed?
Norfolk has the highest rate of malnutrition in England at 6.7% or 1 in 16 people in our county.
(Source: Future Health "Hiding in Plain Sight")
40% of Norwich is in the 20% most deprived parts of England. To look at it another way, we have twice as much deprivation as the national average.

This brilliant short video explains more about our Supermarket and our adjacent Community Café. Please have a look.
How to take part
Step 1 - get in touch
Send an email to Chris Elliott who is organising the event: chris@thefeed.org.uk

Chris will email you our bank details.
Step 2 - pay your registration fee
Make a bank transfer to us for your registration fee of £25.
This entry fee helps raise money and confirms your commitment to take part.
Step 3 - set up your sponsorship page
We ask everyone taking part to raise at least £100 in sponsorship in addition to the registration fee.
Use this link to go to the JustGiving event page we have set up:
https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/coast2024
Click on the "Start Fundraising" button.
If you have a JustGiving account already then sign in, if not create your account.
Set up your own fundraising page by following the instructions. You will see the default is set at £100 as this is the minimum we ask everyone to try to raise in sponsorship in addition to the registration fee.
Start sharing the link on social media and by email and tell your friends, family and colleagues about taking part. They may want to sponsor you or take part too.
Tips if you're taking part
We recommend doing some training walks in advance and building up to longer distances.
Bring a rucksack to carry drinks, snacks and other essentials.
You may want to bring a waterproof jacket and one or two light layers of clothing to cater for all weather conditions.
Good walking shoes, ideally ones which are waterproof. Waterproof socks are another option.
Travel to Blakeney and parking
It's totally your choice how you travel, but here are some options to consider:
Park at Blakeney, do the walk, then get the bus back from Cromer to collect your car. The Coast Hopper bus timetable is here.
Drive in convoy with a friend to Cromer, leave one car there, then travel on to Blakeney and park there. Once you've done the walk, drive back to Blakeney to collect the car there.
Get a lift to Blakeney, then get the train back to Norwich from Cromer.
There is a National Trust car park at Blakeney harbour which cost £6 per day or free if you're a National Trust member. This car park is subject to tidal flooding on occasion so check tide times.
Refreshments and toilets en route
We will set off on the walk as a group of all those taking part. From there we will walk at our own pace so everyone stays comfortable and are neither going too slowly or too quickly.
Blakeney - several cafés near the harbour including Two Magpies. Public toilets there too.
Cley next the Sea - Picnis Fayre deli has coffees and lovely local food products.
Sheringham - the coast path runs close to the town centre with lots of options for food and drink.
West Runton - Seaview café is very close to the footpath route and there are public toilets too.
Cromer - lots of options including public toilets on the pier. Maybe treat yourself to fish and chips as reward for completing the walk.

You can see an interactive map which lets you calculate distances on each section here.
