“I felt respected by others”
This is how James summarised his time with us as he took part in our Supported Work Experience programme. This programme is at the core of what we do. It's one of the ways we motivate people and support them on their journey into employment.
James contacted us himself. He had prior chef training and a keen interest in seasonal produce and foraging. He explained his goals were to build his confidence and a routine, with a long-term ambition to open his own premises selling locally foraged fungi and vegetables.
When working alongside our team James' passion for food was contagious. He committed to the programme and was able to regain his confidence working within our catering business and its supportive culture. As one of our team described it “James displayed a high level of skill and reliability".
We supported James to create a CV, apply and prepare for an interview and he secured part-time employment. We also referred him to a self-employment specialist who has provided him with advice on his longer-term goal of running his own business.
James is just one of the people who we've helped over the last year.
