Norwich Communities Winter Shelter

Norwich Communities Winter Shelter has been running over the winter of 2018-2019. It’s the first time Norwich has had a shelter for very many years and is a response to the increase in rough sleeping over the last five years.

The shelter is based in churches and community centres and has been a community response, with help from Norwich City Council. To access the shelter, people must be rough sleeping and referred by the Pathways Norwich team.

Once at the shelter, the volunteers and Pathways Norwich team work to address the guests’ long-term accommodation and support needs. 15 people who used the shelter this year have subsequently been housed.

The Feed and Pathways Norwich helped the shelter recruit and train volunteers.

The shelter is likely to be required again next winter and we will be working with partners to help ensure it can get more people off the streets over the winter.
